Small, elegant, and genuinely rare — this Camark Pottery flower frog is the kind of piece that serious American pottery collectors stop scrolling for.
Impressed on the base: USA Camark 095. That mark tells you everything you need to know. Camark began using impressed marks with three-digit mold numbers in the 1930s, and finding one additionally stamped USA — as this one is — is uncommon. The mold itself dates to that era, giving this small green ceramic piece a lineage stretching back nearly a century. The color is a rich, even green with the kind of depth that only American art pottery glazes of this period achieve.
At 3.0 inches tall and 4.25 inches in diameter, it is small enough to sit on a windowsill, a bathroom shelf, or a desk, and substantial enough to anchor a spring flower arrangement or a St. Patrick's Day vignette. The holes are perfectly sized for stems — but it is just as beautiful empty, as a piece of decorative pottery in its own right.
Excellent condition — no chips, scratches, or defects of any kind.
Camark Pottery — Camden Art Tile and Pottery Company — was founded in 1926 in Camden, Arkansas by Jack Carnes, John Lessell, Stephen Sebaugh, and the Camden Chamber of Commerce. Starting with only twelve designs and fifteen employees producing up to 500 pieces per day, Camark grew into one of Arkansas's most beloved potteries, known for its iridescent lusterware, Futuristic/Modernistic wares, and the use of locally sourced Camden clay. They survived the Great Depression and World War II, outlasting many of their contemporaries, before finally closing their doors in 1983 when longtime owner Mary Daniel passed away. Authentic early Camark pieces with impressed marks are increasingly sought after by American art pottery collectors.
